Saints Challenge 5K & Youth Mile - June 20

Saints ChallengeJune 20, 2010
32nd annual Saints Challenge 5K
and Jeff Leavey Youth Mile
races.

It's a Saints Father's Day tradition.Get the whole family out to run the 5k or the 1 mile fun run before you relax on Dad's Day. T-shirts, goodie bags and great raffle prizes!

REGISTER NOW for the race.

SAINTS DADS, MOMS - WE NEED YOU!
We REALLY need YOUR help at the Saints Challenge 5K race on Sunday, June 20th.  Join the gang early that morning at the stadium in a SAINTS father’s day tradition and help us raise money for next year’s teams.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the entire year. So far ZERO parents have told us that they would be there but we KNOW that you meant to sign up at the banquet - it was a busy night. Money from this fundraiser buys shirts for the team, funds travel expenses and goes toward track equipment purchases (current project: a new pole vault pit).

Please let us know that you will help as a volunteer.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - meet at the stadium concession stand:
10 parents for registration/setup at 6:30 a.m.
7 for course, meet at 7:30,
3 for finish line, meet at 7:30,
1 person on the bike at 7:45 to follow the racers on the course (you will ride 3.1 miles SLOWLY)
3 people that can stay until 11:30 and help clean up after the race.
You CAN sign up for more than one job or you can help with registration and still run/walk the 5K:
- The people who volunteer to clean up can come earlier and work another part of the race.
- People who work registration will be able to help on the course, the water table and the finish line.

Please volunteer TODAY. Your team thanks you!

They're Still Running!

Upstate Eight Conference Meet - Boys
Daily Herald, May 14, 2010
St. Charles East coach Ben Provencher seemed encouraged by what he saw Thursday.
Eads"I don't think a lot of guys had off nights," he said. "I think a lot of our guys ran really well, and I think they're right on pace for next week."
One who just needs the slightest bump to gain state qualification is Dillon Mugge, who finished third in the 400 at 51.24 seconds. With Saints junior sprinter Mike Brown still out with a foot injury, Mugge was the main sprinter on a night East featured distance.
The group of Tim Johnson, Jake Zahn, Steven Decker and Jared Eads took second in the 3,200, and Johnson and Zahn came back to go four-five in the 1,600.
JohnsonFollowing his plan, Johnson lowered his personal-best to a time of 4:27.00, closer to state qualification.
"My only goal here was to stick with leaders, not really kick it at the end. Next week, I know I can, now I've just got to kick," he said.
Anders Johnson, no relation, finished third in the 300-meter hurdles, and the two Johnsons, Mugge and Eads combined for a fifth-place 1,600 relay.
Pole vaulter Rob Davidsen tied for third at 12 feet, 9 inches, just shy of his 13-0 mark on May 4.
"I had a good day," the junior said. "The weather was pretty nice - a little bit of tail wind, but it was nice. My vaults were pretty good. I mean, I wish I could have had a personal best today, 13-3, but you can't win every day."

West Aurora Bell Invitational
4/18/2010, Daily Herald
St. Charles East, itself building, placed ninth with 19 points in an 18-team meet in which six teams didn't score at all.
The Saints' Rob Davidsen scored a second-place tie in pole vault; they got a solid third by the 3,200 relay of Tim Johnson, Jared Eads, Mike Faith and Jacob Zahn.
Dylan Mugge, battling a stiff wind in pursuit of a sub-52-second 400-meter time, caught it at 51.90.
"Hopefully next meet I can run a low 51 and then so on from there. Just kind of take it one step at a time," he said.
Fellow Saints junior Mike Brown made the finals of both the 100 and 200, finishing fifth in each navigating that same breeze.
"It's kind of blowing with the homestretch, so I think even with Dylan - because he wants to get that 400 time a little bit lower, today he was really fighting for it - along that backstretch he was going really fast even with the wind in his face. It does affect you with races, but the shorter the better."

  • Boys' Indoor UEC: Saints, North Stars tie for fourth place
    3/18/10, The Chronicle
The Saints probably would have had a few more points if senior Tim Johnson had not been literally thrown out of the 800 meter run. Early in the race, Waubonsie Valley junior Joe Brant pushed Johnson hard to the track on a turn.
“I was planning on winning that race,” said Johnson, who came in as the fastest seed. “The kid just took his elbow and shoved it into me. I did a somersault. … I was just trying to get around the kid and he pushed me off and the race was over right there.”
After shoving Johnson, Brant simply walked off the track. Johnson got up and finished the race, though he had no chance of placing. He came back with a solid 400-meter leg to help the Saints finish third in the 1,600 meter relay.
East junior Mike Brown finished third in both the 55 and 200-meter dashes with clockings of 6.79 and 23.84 seconds, respectively.
The Saints placed second in both the 3,200 and 640-meter relays.
Dillon Mugge scored points for East in a pair of events, finishing sixth in the 400 and fifth in the 200.
“The thing about this track is it’s really tight and hard,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the outdoor season. I love track.”
